Opened in 2005 in the Humboldt Park community, Galapagos will serve 378 students in grades K-8 when at capacity (FY 2010).

Galapagos emphasizes giving students the necessary tools to adapt and prosper in a changing, global economy.

Innovative Program Elements

• A low student to teacher ratio of 18.5 to 1 offers students specialized attention

• School uses merit-based pay and awards end-of-year bonuses to teachers evaluated by administrators as most effective

• Galapagos exceeded CPS composite gains for reading and math on the 2007 ISAT by 13 percent

• 2007 ISAT composite scores for Galapagos were 8 percent higher than those of its neighboring schools

Galapagos Elementary Charter School students gained 15% on the ISAT between 2006 & 2007, while Humboldt Park neighborhood schools gained 2%
